That's the most common by far, speaking from 10 year of familiarity, 15 rod bearing changes, 3 full engine rebuilds, 20ish throttle actuator replacements, countless SMG repairs, and salvage dismantling 26 S85 powered vehicles. Dear Friend, I own a 2008 M5 E60 (6-speed) with about 114,000 miles here in California.
No 535i/xi in 07. The first year of the 535i/xi is 08. The 530i/xi was in 07. Totally different cars. 08/09 535i/xi is a 300 HP N54 turbo motor, the 530i/xi has the NA N52 255 HP motor. The N52 motor is pretty bullet proof. The N54 engine has had issues associated with it and the fuel suply (HP Fuel Pump).
M5 E60 gearbox adaptation fail! Hello everyone, I really need help! I had a problem with the gearbox. The car started but wouldn't run. I changed the clutch, flywheel. The car still wouldn't start. I also changed the plcd sensor, all gearbox oils. I replaced both relays for the gearbox. The car start and drive but could not adapt successfully
The 60,000 mile service (Inspection II) on my M Coupe (only 6cyljnders) is $1800 at my dealer and oil/filter alone is around $100 (just for the oil and filter to do it myself!) I think my dealers prices are on the high end, but you might want to check out service prices. my uncle still has his 1991 M5 today. get it.
Other BMW have this issue and not just E60. My 2nd E39 had dry rotted seal but it took almost 8yrs for it to happen around 95k. My 08 E60 had zero issues with seal and i had almost 70K. I think garaging the car prevents a lot of the problem with the seal degrading over time.
remove the seating in the back.go to the passengers side. open up the plate with 3 screws. then remove the ring counter clockwise. and then just look in to the tank.. iff the syphon pipe is not clicked in you will see it stick out. the main fuelpump sits in a housing . the syphon pipe has to be clicked in that housing.
The 5.0-liter unit was used by a small number of models: M5 E60, M5 E61, M6 E63, and M6 E64. In addition, there were a few non-BMW models that used it, including the Weismann GT MF5.
Further to the OP's question, there are other things which are "failures" of a BMW thermostat. One of the more common ones is for the electrical resistance heater to burn or short out. Most stats open solely due to engine coolant temperature, but BMW will open theirs sooner and faster by heating them up with a signal from the PCM.
